Budapest, from a page of my bloc notes, written on September 2007.
“A text doesn’t vanish simply during its writing; it’s not, as we can say, an unique masterpiece, a sort of well defined formula due just to the single effort of the author. A text is not just a consequence of the creative action of the writer.
Text is what is written and read. A text has to be developed as well as to be read in order to become ready into its own completeness. Without the reading experience, in other words, without any hermeneutic effort in order to interpret those written words the text is condemned to be aborted without birth. The text is not only its written form, on the contrary its penuma, ruah, vital spirit is blown in its body by the breathe of a reading mouth. Written is only the death of the oral, as my magister Carmelo Bene used to say, but only orality, so interpretation of the reading eye-mouth, can save the life of the text and all its potential.
Paired to the writings, the reading experience of an hermeneutic oral can bring text to live, not as it was carved on stone, but leaving it to be lulled by wind …”
In those days I read also a very interesting roman written by the hungarian novelist Mihaly Foldi, titled “Ovek az élet”. It was about a very complex love relati0nship between two bourgeois young people, which really was troubled by the intervention of a third character, a guy who attempted to have a non-consensual sex relationship with the young woman, named Edith. With my great surprise, I finally read this page (here is Edith who speaks, of course, the female character who is the most fascinating, tormented, and with absolute artistic and philosophic feelings:
“- Not all the artistic production is directed to produce something or to induce joy to the spectator. In my opinion, artistic work is also those of who is involved in reading a good book. In order to obtain a really artistic effect is not enough that those effect really exists, but a person who can feel and enjoy it has to exist, too. Both the reader and who enjoy himself when regarding to artistic masterpieces has to be consider an artist as well. And even has to be consider an artist the person involved in artistic production just for its own pleasure.”
The role of hermeneutics in the process of understanding and feeling the secessionist art, specially when symbolism is concerned, will be one of the researches fields of szecesszio.com.
